Sailing up the Wild coast! We lose sight of land as we turn east across the strong Agulhas Current, Sailing into the big Southern Indian Ocean! A rough sea unchecked by any land, and we felt it! Struggling to keep our food down Delos starts taking in water through the bow thruster and that’s not our only water leak 🙁

Sailing from Cape Town to La Reunion is an off-the-beaten-track 3,000 NM route in some of the roughest waters on the planet. Delos is ready and our new crew has arrived! Time to head to the islands for the winter so we say goodbye to Cape Town and point the bow out into the grey, misty morning.

After chilling out in Richards Bay waiting for a good weather window to sail south we finally get what we’ve been waiting for! 30 + knots of wind, 5+ knots of current and some big seas rocket us south along the Wild Coast of South Africa! Brian has to visit the local Dr. because of a strange bite on his hand, and we set sail once again to continue our passage!

08:00-  What a nice feeling it is to sleep the whole night!  Nothing like a solid 9 hours ?  I peek my head out the aft hatch and find a cold, rainy, grey morning. 

Sailing Around The Cape Of Good Hope – Days 3 & 4

Day 3

00:00- The wind is starting to come out of the south now. It’s nice and light, about 10 knots so perfect conditions really. I cut the engine off and unfurl the genoa. Delos is now cruising along at about 7 knots and perfectly happy.

00:00 I’m pretty sure my head just hit the pillow, and yet here is Brady telling me it’s time for watch. Apparently I forgot to set my alarm. My bad bro! My head is fuzzy after only about 4 hours of sleep but it’s just enough.

Sailing Around The Cape Of Good Hope – Day 1

0430- The alarm goes off and I find myself feeling pretty alert even though I didn’t get as much sleep as I had hoped.  Tucker and Victoria lured us over to Convivia last night with the promise of rum and conversation.
