The Delos Diaries: Part 19 “Napoleon, Hiking and the Delos Story.”
We’ve been in St Helena now for two weeks. It’s been a wonderful time with a lot of amazing adventures. We’ve even made some friends. On Friday, Lisa our Austrian managed to do a DJ session at the radio station. We had bought a bottle of rum for us all to share whilst we played songs, danced and laughed to our heart’s content.

After rounding the gnarly northern cape of Madagascar we make it to an amazing remote limestone island! The timing was perfect as the wind calmed down for us to enjoy a full day of diving, climbing and enjoying the beach!
We’ve been here just over a week now in St Helena. I knew when I landed here that I was always supposed to come to this place and I deeply feel that more than anything. But I am already feeling the stirrings of restlessness to be back on the ocean.
We’ve explored the land and I’ve felt a shifting of allegiance in my heart.
It’s 3am and my watch isn’t for another hour. But there’s a commotion on Delos and I’m grumbling to myself why people can’t be quieter.
Don’t they know I’m sleeping?
I then realise that there’s only one reason why the entire crew would be up at this moment.
St Helena.
I creep through the darkness, swaying with the motion of the boat as I attempt to head silently to the snack cupboard. It’s 3am, everyone is asleep and I.am.hungry.
I open the cupboard and rub my hands in glee. I pull out an oat snack bar to hear a rustling to my left.
“What are you doing?”
Our favorite sail blows upon an epic afternoon of downwind sailing… Rounding the gnarly northern cape of Madagascar we make incredible speed in 40 knots of wind as usual 🙂
The Delos Diaries: Part 15 “Time Machines and Peanut Butter.”
It’s day 6 aboard Delos on our passage to St Helena. I’m getting more and more excited by the day. I don’t know whether it’s because the currency is English, the history, or the fact that a bunch of British people live there, but it’d be nice to get a taste of home- even if it is on a random island in the middle of nowhere.
The crew is rushing around Delos with anticipation rife in the air. The reason?
We leave today. We’re securing everything down in sight, putting things away and searching for anything that could fall, break or roll.
Scuba Diving and Muddy Adventures on Isle St. Marie- Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 122
We set off on our first adventures with our new crew Greg and Chyanne! After quite a few failed attempts to find a good dive spot we finally find some epic scuba diving! With heaps of fish and giant lobsters!
“And… Princess of the week is…!”
We’re all sitting around the table, tapping our fingers excitedly against the wood as Mr Brady pulls a name from the pot.
To be Princess of the week is to get the crew to do whatever you please and whenever. You can use the power with dignity, or abuse it.
“Elizabeth!”
Our Sailing Life in Madagascar! Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 121
This video can be perfectly summed up in my favorite Madagascar phrase “Mora Mora” it literally means “slowly slowly” simply – things happen when they happen. We meet awesome locals that show us some incredible hidden gems, beautiful waterfalls, crazy wild life and pristine beaches.
After some 6000 NM and almost a year later we arrive back in Madagascar and whoow it felt good to be back! Our first stop – Isle St Marie, a small island with a crazy pirate history and one of the world only pirate grave yards.. totally cool!!
The sun is beaming down on me on Delos as I sit with Alex and Brady on the back. I’m feeling very much at peace today, and relieved.
It’s a new day.
We’re having a mini lie in on Delos. I don’t know why but I haven’t been sleeping too well. My nights have been filled with unpleasant dreams and I can’t seem to snap out of it. I yawn as I finish my tea and wave Karin and Brian off as they head out in Maggie to explore.
We leave the Skeleton Coast with a sense of relief. I don’t even look back at the place, knowing that I will never miss that land of bones.
With a severe tropical storm moving our way fast we decide to start our 575NM passage from the remote sandy beach island of St. Brandon to Pirate Bay in isle St. Marie, Madagascar! And what a passage, one of my favorites actually! Conditions where great, with a steady 25 knots behind the beam Delos was cruising along at 8kn.
The morning comes and Brian is excited about another day of exploring.
“Ok, guys, there’s this dune we have to climb- it’s about a 3km walk there and then we climb the dune. So it’s probably about an hour and a half there and an hour and a half back. What you reckon?”
Wanna know what paradise looks like? Man, this place is incredible! Take crystal clear water, sprinkle some pure white sand beaches around then put Delos right in the middle! No people no internet just us and thousands of birds.
