MEDICAL EMERGENCY! What would you do?! Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 283

A call on the VHF from a local Bahamian family out fishing springs us into action! We get so much help and kindness from people in the places we visit, when we can help them out it’s our way of saying Thank You So Much. The weather is changing and it’s time to get a move on! We leave our beloved spot at the TTYC and seek shelter at Buena Vista Island for the night, only to spot some strange flashing lights in the sky. Is it a UFO or merely an atmospheric phenomena? We hope someone knows more than we do! After an awesome sail to Hog Cay we are in the middle of cooking Pigs In A Blanket for a party when we get an EMERGENCY CALL on the VHF. A local family was out fishing and their daughter cut herself pretty badly after falling on a conch shell. Since we have a huge medical kit onboard we got in touch over the VHF and organized for them to tie up to Delos so we could render care.

Living in the WORLDS LARGEST swimming pool! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 284

Crystal clear water, unexplored beaches, spearfishing, an outdoor movie theater, and even tricky boat projects- this amazing edit by Kazza has it all! Imagine waking up and wandering outside your house to find the most incredibly calm and beautiful view you could imagine. We’re floating in a sea of crystal clear glass! What a special way to wake up and start the day :). After spearfishing for some dinner and exploring a new beach we take advantage of the zero knots of wind and set up a full on movie theater at the beach and watch the legendary “Captain Ron”- a must see if you haven’t already. And if you’re interested in boat projects Brian troubleshoots our batteries and spends a few days in the sweltering heat on the heater install.

Private Island Beach Wedding! 100 Days in Isolation – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 285

On our 100th day in isolation Kazza creates a “Honey-Do” list for Capt. Breeyawn! It’s time to get our butts in gear and prepare Delos for her escape. We feel blessed to have spent so much time with such amazing people, but the time has come and we need to leave before we’re caught between a hurricane and a pandemic. Before we all set sail our lovely friends Conor and Steph decide to get married! The entire group pitches in with their own special contribution to put together a beach wedding in our uninhabited little paradise. This is a real heart-felt edit and many tears were shed in the process. Fair winds and sending much love.

ESCAPE PLAN! Hurricane Season Is Coming – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 286

Ahoy Delos tribe! Hope you all are ready to kick back a bit for the weekend 🙂 We hope this video helps you get off to a great start. It’s bitter sweet but ultimately we decide it’s safer to sail back to the US then stay in the Bahamas. So we set sail on our longest passage to date with the Little Nugget onboard. It’s the beginning of a 1,000 NM sail taking us from the very southern tip of the Bahamas to Annapolis, Maryland.

Surfing down crazy waves, hitting the bottom, and navigating through unlit Islands at night! The hurricane season is fast approaching and we’re forced to leave our beloved spot in the Bahamas. After 4 months of lazy anchorage life we feel a little rusty doing a longer sail but need to get in the swing of things quickly as we find ourselves surfing down ocean swells trying to sail through a cut between two islands. It’s so exciting to be sailing again 😀 Hope you enjoy it too! Many virtual hugs from us! Xooxxo – Kazza, Brian and Little Sierra

Riding the Gulfstream North – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 287

Sailing on the open ocean for days! Wanna know what it’s really like? This episode is for you 🙂 It all starts off with amazing conditions, flying our beautiful spinnaker and the girls showering on deck. The crew is happy and energized. But as the conditions change so does our mood. After lack of sleep everyone is feeling super tired, not making it easier as the conditions get worse and we do something Brian has promised himself never to do again. Beating, Beating, and more beating our brains out trying to sail upwind in the ocean waves.

Hope you enjoy this peak into our lives on the open ocean. A huge thank you to Grace from @calicoskiessailing for being such badass crew and to @kiril_dobrev for putting this episode together!

HORRIFIC Sailing Into a DARK VORTEX of Wind and Rain – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 288

Beating our brains out sailing into 35 knot winds while getting pounded by BIG waves and never ending squalls…. This video definitely shows the less glamorous part of our lifestyle! Brian described it pretty well – “I don’t think any of us wish we where here right now.”

Not only was our sanity put on test but Delos took quite a beating too. With constant wind shifts we rip our sail and the bow starts filling up with bucketloads of salt water every wave we hit!! NOT IDEAL! It was a scary tiring couple of days but we made it through and get a very warm welcome into the USA.

Hope you enjoyed this bumpy ride! Many HUGS from us! Kazza, Brian and little Sierra

DOWN and DIRTY in the Boat Yard! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 289

If you like BOAT WORK this video is for you :). We haul Delos out of the water for some well needed maintenance! Brian dives head first into what feels like a million projects… Sanding, painting, patching blisters in the keel, fixing a corroded through hull, servicing the prop and bow thruster just to mention a few.

I’ve always admired Brian’s incredible work ethic and the way he can pretty much fix anything AKA “McGyver” 🙂 haha! Hope you enjoyed seeing this other side of what its like to live on a sailboat full time. Many HUGS! Kazza, Brian and little Sierra

The reality of OWNING A SAILBOAT! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 290

Imagine taking your house into a harsh environment, shaking it around and dousing it with salt water. How much stuff would break? Then move your house hundreds of miles from the nearest hardware store and we find out just what it takes to maintain an offshore sailboat.

After 1 week of hard labor the projects are coming along nicely, but there is still an endless list of that needs tackling. An upgraded lithium battery bank installed, refrigeration compressor and cold place replaced, and of course the damn toilet decided to back up in the yard and cause a disgusting mess and I’m forced deep into some really shitty work, LITERALLY!!

If you’re curious about the LiFePO4 batteries check the links below:

We’re also continuing our search for the best eco-friendly bottom paint! The paint we used is not currently available to be sold commercially, however if you want to check it out visit https://www.magicantifoul.com/

Hope you enjoyed this episode showing the less glamorous part of what it’s like to won a boat. And also Brian’s summary on how to save some serious money on labour.

SPLASHED! Our Destination? Sailing North until it gets cold! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 291

I like how Brian described it- “It doesn’t matter where we go, but step 1 is to untie the lines and just go somewhere, anywhere.” After 2 weeks of hard labor the day is finally here and our home is going back into the water 🙂 Being back feels absolutely AMAZING! After a big provisioning it’s time to set sail, but first we need to figure out where to go. . And that’s exactly what we did! We made a rough plan to sail north until it gets cold. We go through the narrow C&D canal and get a visitor out in the middle of nowhere :p

BUCKET LIST! NYC by Sailboat – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 292

We get the most amazing delivery on the planet when a #delostribe member surprises us in front of the Statue of Liberty with the best NYC gift ever! Our buzz is short lived as our dinghy engine fails right in front of the Statue of Liberty as we’re trying to line up the perfect shot. Kazza comes to the rescue sailing Delos to scoop me up all while taking care of Sierra and filming. She is a serious super-woman sailor and Mom 🙂

If you wonder what it’s like to live on a boat as a family, sailing from Island to Island, bicycling, hiking and collecting your own dinner this episode is for you 🙂

Continuing our trip North we decide to sail through Long Island Sound, making a quick stop at the Thimble Islands in Connecticut where we get the coolest pizza delivery ever. We depart in the morning and have a fast sail to the famous Block Island in Rhode Island. Flying a Kite through New England! Cape Cod and Isle of Shoals. Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 294

Join us as we fly the kite and sail through New England visiting Cape Cod and Isle of Shoals NH along the way! We set sail leaving Block Island in our wake. The conditions are absolutely perfect so we decide to hoist our spinnaker from Precision Sails. We have an amazing sail and stop in Hadley Harbor, just next to Woods Hole, where we switch out to our new outboard engine on Maggie. With wind in our favor we sail to the Cape Cod Canal and then to ProvinceTown (P-Town), Cape Cod where we explore the beach and lighthouse. We make it to Isle of Shoals in New Hampshire where we explore the islands by drone and dinghy, actually making it into Maine waters for the first time this season!

Thanks for watching and sending you all much love and lot’s of hugs! Brian, Kazza, and The Little Nugget

Our very own PRIVATE ISLAND in Maine! Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 295

Delos has sailed to deserted beaches, tropical jungle rivers, and even bustling cities. And now we find ourselves in the amazing State of Maine, at our very own private island! After dodging a mine field of lobster floats we finally arrive at our new home for the next few weeks- our very own private island in Maine! With deep water around us it’s the perfect introduction to this magnificent cruising ground and a great place to do our mandatory self-quarantine. We begin exploring the island and planning for Sierra’s 1st birthday, only to find that a tropical storm is hot on our heels. We batten down the hatches and prepare Delos for the blow, which arrives during The Little Nugget’s party.

PS- A very special thanks to Jordan, crew from our 1st Caribbean season, for the incredible job helping to put this episode together. We love ya’ Jordan 🙂

GATHER N COOK – Livin’ Off The Sea in Maine! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep 296

Living off the sea, collecting our own food, and fixing your own boat is a ton of work! Being at a dock is a true luxury for us and we decide to take full advantage by going ashore at low tide to harvest mussels on our own for a cook-off competition. It turns out this is a huge amount of work and takes us two days to get them cleaned and prepped. After our feast we get a visit from our neighbors, which happen to be a pair of Bald Eagle! After watching them fight over a fish we see one fall into the water and we’re quick on the scene to get some awesome footage of a Bald Eagle doing the breast stroke! Our washing machine starts making a terrible noise and smoke pours out so Brian tears it into pieces troubleshooting. Looks like we’ll be hand washing clothes for a while. Then it’s time to explore the little town of Port Clyde where we buy lobster for $5.00 a piece and whip up a gigantic chilled lobster salad. Yep, we love FOOD and the bounty the ocean provides 🙂

Fair winds, and thanks for watching! XXOO- Brian, Kazza, and The Little Nugget

Off The Beaten Track in Hurricane Sound, Maine- Sailing Vessel Delos Ep 297

We set sail for Hurricane Sound in Penobscot Bay, where we discover a pristine nature preserve and dinghy through a tidal reversing waterfall! Eager to explore we depart Blubber Island and set sail for Hurricane Sound on the west coast of Vinalhaven Island. We make a stop at Hurricane Island to explore the abandoned granite quarries that supplied this beautiful stone used to construct the Brooklyn Bridge and Washington Monument. We anchor near a place called The Basin that has huge tides and a restricted inlet to a large bay inside the island where the escaping water creates a reversing waterfall caused by way too much water trying to escape. It’s a serious 12 knot current and we have way too much fun exploring it with Maggie!

WHAT THE **** are we doing out here?! SAILING in Maine – SV Delos Ep. 298

It’s not always glamorous when living on a boat and even though we are finding ourselves in an amazing anchorage with 360 degree protection, walking trails, wild berries and no lobster pots the weather is getting COLD and we’re wearing foulies inside 😛 so Brian decides it’s time to finish the heater project!! The other side of cruising in remote places is the nearest store is a 6 mile dinghy ride away so Brian goes on a full day mission to find us some food and encounters pretty bad conditions between the two islands, battling high winds and waves breaking all over our fresh groceries. But such is the cruising life….

Hope you enjoy this glimpse into what it’s like to live as a family on a boat. BIG hugs from us! Kazza, Brian and little Sierra

How we FILM 🎥 OUR LIVES! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep 299

Filming our lives is an adventure in itself, and in this episode we show the real life behind the scenes of how we document our travels! Its my B-day 🙂 Woohoo! And can’t think of a better place to be anchored right now. Brian decides to spend the afternoon filming a time-lapse so we find an amazingly beautiful spot, set up three cameras, and spend the afternoon filming and playing with Sierra on the beach. I then get 3 birthday wishes…. Brian spoils me with a waffle feast for breakfast (Wish # 1) We go on a berry picking adventure with the family where Sierra gobbles up all the berries (Wish # 2) and Brian goes on a hunt for a my special B-day dinner (Wish #3) 😀

COLD WEATHER SAILING! What We Really Think – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 300

Woop Woop! I can’t believe this is video #300!! What a journey it’s been, from newbie sailors to crossing the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans. We’ve had the pleasure of exploring 6 continents and sailing with almost 60 amazing Delos crew. From party boat to family boat you’ve stuck with us as we’ve evolved over the years and it means the world to continue sharing this lifestyle that we love so much!

In this episode we sail Delos to Mount Desert Island, Maine and anchor right in the middle of Acadia National Park. Once we figure out how to anchor Maggie with the incredibly high tides we begin exploring by foot and hike the highest trail accessible right next to Delos. Brian decides to tackle some more boat work fixing our washing machine which takes an interesting turn. At the end of the day the washing machine is in pieces, but we now have unlimited hot water from our new heater system so things begin to look up.

Just want to give a huge THANKS to all of you who have watched and supported this project over the years! You’re the best and we love every single one of you and you have made this possible for us! If you are new here and have not yet subscribed please do! It helps us out a lot. HUGS ~ Kazza, Brian and little Sierra
