The Delos Diaries: Part 3 “It’ll be all right.”

Night is descending upon Delos and I am sitting here surrounded by the Delos Crew. Brady is cooking, everyone is freshly showered and I am recovering from an epic hangover.

It’s been a strange few days.

Four days ago I received some bad news.

We’ve been busy packing away the late night food delivery by our good friend Ian and trying to figure out where to put everything.

Ok, a quick update is needed here of some of the things that have happened. We’ve been preparing for our voyage to Namibia, which includes preparing the boat, fixing anything that seems to go wrong and stocking up Delos for a mountain of food.

Sailing from La Reunion to Mauritius is just a short 150 mile hop! In this episode we get our autopilot parts fixed, check out of amazing La Reunion, and set sail on a 150NM overnight passage to Mauritius. We see some pretty good conditions and make the sail in less than 24 hours, finding us arriving for an amazing sunrise!

One Tiny Island That Has It All!- Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 111

Delos takes to the air! an unforgettable experience flying the smallest airplane ever, over this incredible island. It was incredible to see all the places we’ve been exploring over the last few weeks from a completely new perspective! We drive up to the historical town of Cilaos and take on one last epic hike to a crazy waterfall.

This time last year, my world had crumbled and I didn’t know what on earth I was going to do with my life. Hope had disintegrated. Joy was gone. All I could ever hope for was another day of feeling slightly less worse, feel a day with less pain.

Sailing the Roaring 40s in 30 foot Waves! Sailing SV Delos Ep. 107

In this episode we sail through the roaring 40s and it was crazy! Definitely the most intense part of our 3000NM passage from South Africa to La Reunion. We had wind speeds of over 50kn, 23–32ft (7–10m) waves and in the middle of everything our autopilot breaks and it’s hand steering from now on! A bit of a tester as our new crew have not hand steered before.

Sailing up the Wild coast! We lose sight of land as we turn east across the strong Agulhas Current, Sailing into the big Southern Indian Ocean! A rough sea unchecked by any land, and we felt it! Struggling to keep our food down Delos starts taking in water through the bow thruster and that’s not our only water leak 🙁

Dodging Massive Storm at Cape of Good Hope! Sailing SV Delos Ep. 105

Sailing from Cape Town to La Reunion is an off-the-beaten-track 3,000 NM route in some of the roughest waters on the planet. Delos is ready and our new crew has arrived! Time to head to the islands for the winter so we say goodbye to Cape Town and point the bow out into the grey, misty morning.
