TREASURE HUNT! We buried BOOTY on this secret island :) – Sailing Vessel Delos

YES! We really did bury something on this island for you to find. ARRRRGH Delos Tribe!!! There be a PIRATES BOOTY on this here secret island!!! We know ‘cause we buried it…. The clues below will lead you to the treasure, but be warned the path is riddled with reefs and not for the faint of heart!!!

Scoundrels & Scallywags were upon us closing in from all corners of the seven seas. We had to lighten our load and make a hasty escape, so we buried our precious Delos Pirate Booty on the unknown islet and now we’re calling upon the Delos Tribe to find the loot. In the video be the treasure map and may the riddle below help you on your quest to riches.

“At the Union between the holy men Vincent & George you will find the Key to a low lying pirate island of palms at the Worlds End, where legend says Sparrows & turtles play Horseshoes in the Reef. There you must look to the east for the teenage tree in a parade of palms. At it’s base you will find Neptunes trumpet guarding the buried treasure you seek.”

There you will find a bountiful booty of treasure that would make even the wealthiest of privateers…..moist. If ye find the treasure, take a piece of booty, and a swig of the captains grog, but return the rest. Otherwise Davy Jones will come a calling!

Our Experimental eco-friendly antifouling project begins- Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 205

Ever wondered how to paint the bottom of a sailboat with antifouling?? After 5 weeks of back breaking work we’re on the home stretch. We start off by sandblasting Delos’s bottom to take her back to the gel coat. After applying 3 coats of epoxy primer it’s time to spray on our new silicon based experimental antifouling paint- SeaSpeed VX 10. It takes about 2 gallons of paint and an airless sprayer to get the job done. After adding a new anchor, end for ending our chain, installing our new convection oven, repairing our leaky rudder, and many many more projects Delos is ready to get back in the water for the new season!

Midnight Sun in the Arctic- By Alex Blue

Ah, it feels so good to be back in cold weather. I’m bundled up and sitting on the rail of Isbjörn.. My entire body covered in layers upon layers and my face tucked away from the biting wind. My hair peeks out and flutters against my glasses, their polarization dramatizing the already extremely dramatic environment which lay before me. I close my eyes and let the never setting sun warm me, or at least trick me into thinking so. They flick back open and focus on the foggy clouds which are water falling over the ancient snow covered peaks. It as if they yearn to blanket the mountains which lie permanently frozen. The entire scene feels like one vast canvas, on which mother nature experimented with patterns and textures of an ice cool pallet. (more…)

The Texas Bar – By Brian

It’s day 10 and we’re further north than any of us have even been. Isbjorn is making short tacks, gliding through the frigid water into a glacier lined fjord. As we make the last headland the fjord opens up to reveal a unbelievably huge glacier dominating the southern wall. Every few minutes a low thunder rumbles, reverberating off the fjord walls like a canon shot, caused by tons of ice calving off the face and dropping into the frozen waters below. It’s 10:00PM and we’re in one of the most remote and wildest places in the entire world. The midnight sun is shining and the weather is ideal. It’s time to explore! (more…)

How to save $25,000 in the boat yard. Sailing Vessel Delos – Ep. 204

835 hours of HARD LABOR, that’s how! This is Boat Work in Exotic Places in its truest fashion! After 4 months of visiting family and exploring Iceland and the Svalbard we finally return home, back to Delos in Grenada. We get to work straight away by creating a Boat Work To Do list with all the tasks we need to get her ship-shape and back in the water where she belongs. Our major tasks involve repainting the bottom, fixing our bow thruster, and grinding the keel back to bear metal and building back all the layers. Working 10 hours days we go step by step through all the jobs to give a taste of what a major haul out is like for Delos and her crew.

What does it take to get a sailboat like Delos ready to haul out and be stored in the yard for a few months? Join us for the last sail of the season on Delos and we’ll walk you though it! It takes quite a bit of work to do it properly but with the right knowledge and planning it’s not too bad.

This video has a lot of love, deep reflections of our lives on the water and a lot of boat work as we prepare Delos to be hauled out while we head back to visit our families for a few months.

Way back in 2015 we were releasing 2 episodes a month….The time between when we filmed and released them was over a year! We made the decision to work our asses off and release 1 episode every week until we got “caught up”… Well, THE TIME HAS COME!!! Its taken 3 years but here we are, currently editing footage that we shot within the last month. This means we have time to be WAY more creative, switch things up and take on new challenges!! What’s a FUNGATTA???? Well, it’s a triathlon of events including sailing, diving, partying, and general good times 🙂 When Rick from Sophisticated Lady mentions a regatta up north in Bequia, nestled in the turquoise waters of the Grenadines it sounds like too cool of a mission to pass up. We set sail and buddy boat north to find yet another incredible sailing paradise. The only problem- the race is called off for lack of wind. So what do sailors do when there is no wind? Well the first this that pops into our minds is drinking rum and scuba diving. And so the Delos Fungatta series is born! Yep, that’s right… We’ve hit 200 episodes! It seems like just yesterday we were cruising through the South Pacific in 2010. Time has flown by and here we are 9 years later still trying to make as many memories as possible. Thanks to all of you for being along for the ride!

What else would you do for your Captains Birthday than kidnap him to make his day extra special!? How about bring in a bit of crew love with our new friends in Grenada and some chill time out in the Grenadine Islands. Land life always needs to be balanced out with some sailing and spending quality time in the water with Kazza’s favorite creature, turtles!

Gettin’ Deep into the Grenada Cruiser Scene – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 198

Grenada is a black hole that will suck you in, or at least that’s what we’ve heard, and after spending a little time here we can see why! In this episode we have some incredible sailing, we say goodbye to Eric, Maureen, and Colin and life returns to normal on Delos. At least for a few hours…. Rick from Sophisticated Lady tells us of a dinghy cruiser concert, which sounds too cool to pass up so we move Delos over to Hog Island and get deep into the heart of the cruiser scene with one hell of a party!

One Helluva sail to Grenada! – Sailing Vessel Delos Ep.197

The sail from Trinidad to Grenada is supposed to be eazy-peazy right? Just a leisurely 80NM sail to another island. NOPE!!! It turns out to be one of the roughest overnight passages we’ve had this season with squalls gusting into the 40 knot range that knocked us around all night long with big seas and current against us. Not to mention we had two fresh greenhorns onboard, Eric and Maureen, who were our Patron Crew Contest winners for this leg. There’s no better way to break in a new sailor than with a good overnight passage in some hectic conditions 🙂

CARNIVAL, WHOA! From the mud drenched sunrise parties to the extravagant costumes and days full of limin’ & chippin’ – our few weeks spent on Trinidad were truly the experience of a lifetime!! It became even more interesting when we dug into the history of this legendary event which spans centuries, cultures, continents and religions. Untouched TOBAGO! We made it to the CARIBBEAN! Episode 195

Did we seriously just sail into the Caribbean!? After almost 10 years sailing around the world, we’ve made it to the sailors playground. The Caribbean is a mecca for cruisers and we just arrived into Tobago, the southern jewel! We are welcomed onto this beautiful island with 75% rum, waterfalls in protected rainforests forests and some of the best scuba diving of our LIVES!
