We’ve got a suuuuper cool episode that we’ve been so excited to share with you. It’s probably one of the projects we’ve gotten the most comments/questions about in the build so far, so I know so many of you have been really looking forward to this one. As you might already know, we’ve decided to go with spray foam for the majority of the hull for several reasons which we break down for you in the video. The process is VERY interesting and VERY messy, and ended up taking an extra day to get it all done perfectly, and then of course the clean up process was a massive undertaking in and of itself. This was such a fun project and we’re so stoked with how it turned out, we hope you enjoy this one!

It’s crunch time here in the workshop, and we’ve got just 7 days to chip away at a pretty daunting to-do list so we can be ready for a project that so many of you have been SUPER interested in….It’s INSULATION WEEK! After months of planning and research, the time has finally come to spray foam the entire hull, but before we can do that, it is critical that we nail the prep work to prevent ourselves some major headaches down the road. So put on your respirator, buckle up, and let’s do this thing!

We explore what it’s really like to build a boat- how ticking off projects isn’t really a linear to-do list, but rather a spiderweb of interconnected projects where every step depends on the ten before and the 10 after. It’s a mix of small wins, unexpected detours, and lots of progress! And while it can feel a bit chaotic and overwhelming at times, we are so in love with the process, and each week that we’re back at the build we are more and more sure that all this huge life changes are taking us exactly where we need to be 💕

Ahoy Delos Tribe, well these sentimental videos just keep rolling in one after another! In this week’s episode we pack away 15 years of memories and a lifetime at sea, haul out Delos, park her next to Delos 2.0, and start to take a look at what it’s gonna take to get this ole’ girl back in ship shape for whatever her next adventure in life will be (spoiler alert, it’s SHOCKING how much work needs to be done 😅). But as you can imagine, it was a totally surreal feeling to strip Delos back down….taking down all the pictures from the wall of fame/shame, going through every single cabinet and drawer and having special memories attached to even the most mundane of items. I’m sure many of you can relate to this at different stages in your life when you’re standing at the edge of a big change 💕 But as bittersweet as it feels, we just know that we’re on the right path with this next big chapter! This week’s episode still doesn’t feel real, and spoiler alert you may want some tissues for this one (even sweet little Sierra shed a few tears watching it 🥹) It’s our final miles on Delos as we move her to the marina where we will haul her out, and the gravity of it all is really sinking in. We reflect back on 15 years of memories, adventures, and emotions, and so much more. It was quite an intense and emotional moment for us, but we couldn’t dwell on it for too long…because in true Delos fashion, our last mission is an absolute doozie, and we have to navigate our way through a shallow & narrow river at night with rain, squalls, and about a foot of clearance under the keel. After soooo much research and planning, we’re super excited to reveal our sail plan for Delos 2.0 🥳. We’ve been working closely with Quantum Sails to really hone in on our needs and preferences to come up with something that will give us performance, versatility, and durability to tackle all the conditions we plan to sail in. All the projects on the boat are full of their own unique set of challenges and rewards, but I have to say this has been one of my favorite big undertakings so far in the build! But we start welding things in place and you can reallllly see how the lines look with everything in place and it’s so freaking cool!

We’re back at it with the sailing hardware! You might recall that this was one of the last projects that we had been really focused on before leaving to French Polynesia, and it feels soooo exciting to be really digging in on this one. It’s such a cool feeling to be able to create our dream sailing set up exactly how we want it. Our main goal with the hardware is to have all the winches in the forward cockpit so that you can easily make any sail adjustments from a single location, and that means we’ve had to get a little bit creative with the placement of everything. It’s all about the details and precision, and it’s something you kinda just have to dive into and make little adjustments with trial and error until you get it just right. So in this week’s episode we really go into the nitty gritty, walking you through each step and all our thought processes along the way to give you a true sense of what this project has really been like. How I Accidentally Sailed Around the Entire World (Pt. 3 of 3) ⛵️Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 527

Can’t believe this episode is finally here 🥹 It’s the end of a circle that’s been 14 years in the making. After 54,508 nautical miles, countless laughs, storms, sunrises, and everything in between — Kazza has officially completed her circumnavigation of the globe. We put a loooot of extra love into this one, and it was so fun to go back through all the old videos getting old clips and strolling down memory lane. But it was super emotional too (and so is this episode, you may or may not want to have a tissue handy 🥹). I’m just so dang proud of Kazza, and looking back on our story it’s actually just so crazy and lucky that we ended up here together. I’m continuously blown away by Kazza every single day, and watching her adapt and grow through each chapter of this journey just leaves me in awe. I’m so grateful for every day and every mile we’ve shared, and so grateful to each and every one of you for coming along with us too and making this dream a reality. We’re comin’ at ya with part 2 of our LAST EVER passage on Delos 🤯 And apart from the weight of it all and bittersweet feelings of this chapter closing… Let’s just say it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The conditions get pretty unpleasant, not like “wtf are we doing out here” rough, but like “this is not fun and even just making a cup of tea feels like a huge achievement” rough. Upwind sailing is a special kind of discomfort that’s hard to describe if you haven’t experienced it for yourself, and the videos just never do it justice. (Any fellow sailors out there can back us up on that one?). BUT it makes everyday tasks very entertaining to watch, so we hope you enjoy a glimpse into what a rough day out here really looks like. Eventually the weather eases up, but unfortunately Kazza gets put down with the same flu Sierra had.

This week’s episode is a BIG one. Part 1 of our passage from Fiji to Australia is here, and when I think about what makes this sail special, I don’t even really know where to begin. It’s our very last passage on Delos, and when we complete the 1500 mile journey it will mark a HUGE personal milestone: Kazza’s circumnavigation of planet Earth. I’m so freaking proud of her, and still just in disbelief at how this journey has unfolded over the course of the last 15 years. There’s a mix of emotions wrapped up in this sail… excitement, gratitude, nostalgia, and of course some sadness knowing this is the close of a chapter we’ll never forget. Through all the highs and lows, the wild seas and calm anchorages, you guys have been right here with us for all of it. Thank you for the bottom of our hearts for sharing in this journey with us and giving us so much love and support, none of this would be possible without you 💙

Back To Where It All Started: New Crew, Old Memories….Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 524

Today’s episode is a super fun one with a healthy dose of nostalgia as we revisit one of the places we loved so much our first time around. It’s the first sailing destination that we’ve returned to together (I hadn’t met Kazza yet when I sailed through French Polynesia and Tonga the first time) and it felt sooo crazy to be back in the same place as totally different people. This season has been a lot of fun but also pretty challenging, and after soooo much boat work, and sooooo many miles, it finally feels like we have the chance to settle in and enjoy some proper Fijian cruising. We visit a very cool village that very rarely has sailors visiting, and we had so much fun hanging and playing with all the kids. We also welcome our first new crew we’ve had in a suuuuper long time, and our first ever Frenchie! Mathilde will be joining us for the passage to Australia, so it was great to be able to spend some time together and for her to get used to the boat before we set off in next week’s episode for our last long passage on Delos (I know we can’t believe it either 🥹)

BIG DECISIONS…We’re At A Crossroads. Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 523

The time had finally come to make a choice that had been weighing on us for a while. When we left the build months ago, the plan was simple: sail Delos to Fiji and leave her there while we carried on with the project. But once we actually made it here, another idea started creeping in—what if we kept going all the way to Australia, closing out this chapter on Delos once and for all and allowing us to focus ourselves 100 percent on the build. Both paths had their pros and cons, and we went back and forth more times than we can count. In the end though, we landed on a decision that felt right. But that wasn’t the only thing on our minds…The generator saga was still in full swing. After days upon days spent in the engine room, literal buckets of sweat, and some help from the legendary Bill, we made some incredible progress, and the moment of truth came when it was time to fire her up and see if all our hard work had paid off!

Buckle up for this week’s episode it’s a doozie! The title of the video pretty much says it all, and yes it was as bad as it sounds..our generator had been out of action and when I dug in to see what was going on I was absolutely shocked at what I found. This turns into quite the project, and it definitely required me to channel my absolute highest levels of MacGyver instincts, and the help of a very skilled local welder. But luckily, despite all the long sweaty days in engine room, the marina we were staying at is AMAZING and a dip in the pool combined with a frosty brew and a juicy burger and we had everything we needed to power through!

Ahoy Delos Tribe, we’ve got a pretty, ummmm….interesting video for you today 😂 The time has finally come to sail from Tonga to Fiji, and it was time to bring in the big guns. Our very own VIP crew member, the one, the only…DAN THE MAN! It was soooo freaking cool to be able to show Dan our world. After a year in Australia with him giving his whole heart and soul to the build and teaching us everything he can about welding, it felt great to be able to give him a taste of what we’re working towards. But in true Delos fashion, this would not be a boring passage, and Dan definitely got a taste of the kinds of curve balls that the ocean can throw your way. For those of you who have been missing the build videos, we’ve got the next best thing….endless boat work 🤣 The biggest difference of course being that instead of a fully equipped workshop and every tool and part that I need, out here we have to get a bit more creative with our solutions. We also give you our first glimpse into what has been a new world for all of us, Sierra has started home schooling! It’s definitely been a new type of challenge for us, but also lots of fun, and it’s such a joy to see her grow and develop. So between the boat work, the home schooling, and of course you have to throw in some bad weather because…well, boat life… and we’ve got our work cut out for us in this week’s episode! After weeks of the boat yard scramble and a VERY challenging 1400 mile passage, we are sooooo happy and relieved to catch our breaths and enjoy the fruits of all our labor. We’re back into cruiser mode in full force, and it feels fantastic! And of all places to ease back into the life, Tonga is a pretty great one. There are tons of anchorages to choose from, and because there are so many small islands everywhere to protect from wind and swell in every direction, it’s like anchoring in a swimming pool. We also have some very cool updates to share from the build with everything Dan and the team has been up to while we were away so far. We hope you enjoy getting back into the cruising life with us!

Trapped Between Two Bad Choices…Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 518

South Pacific Round II

We’ve got a doozie of an episode for you this week! After a very challenging 8 days at sea, we had finally made it to the calm and crystal clear waters of Niue, a literal rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We were suuuper excited not just to explore this very unique part of the world, but also to get some good nights of sleep and recuperate a bit…we were a bit rusty after all since our long stint on land, and this last passage had hit us pretty hard. But only about 24 hours after arriving, as Mother Nature has a tendency to do, everything changed completely, and we found ourselves faced with a VERY tough decision…Neither option was good, but the stakes were high and we knew we needed to get this one right. In this episode we also say goodbye to the man, the myth, the BILL. Goodbye’s are never easy, and we cannot say it enough how grateful we are to have had Bill’s help these last months.
