Designing our galley has been a loooong process, but it’s one of the parts of the boat that we absolutely wanted to get right, and that’s because the galley is just such an important part of every day life when we’re out sailing and cruising. Having a space that flows well when you’re hooning along in big seas and squalls on all sides of you is a non negotiable. And when you’re hosting dinner with new friends from the anchorage, you want the cooking to be fun too. Food is a huge part of everyone’s life, but when we’re out sailing we feel it even more so…life is stripped down to a much simpler existence when you’re anchored out in a remote atoll hundreds of miles away from civilization. Food, family time, and connection with nature replaces the flurry of distractions and non stop stressors of the “real world”. So after literal months upon months of planning, designing, sourcing materials and appliances, we finally get our first glimpse of our future galley in real life, and we are beyonnnnnd stoked!

Just when we were hitting our stride with the catamaran build, a surprise showed up on the radar—a cyclone headed straight for Brisbane, the first one in over 50 years. So in this episode, we shift gears from building to battening down the hatches. We board up and secure the boat, and do our best to prepare for whatever comes our way. Then… we wait. Not the kind of break we were hoping for, but sometimes nature calls the shots.

Today’s episode is a goodie if I do say so myself, as we tackle a job that I really had so much fun trying to figure out- enter: the shaft brake. Besides answering the question what the heck is a shaft brake and why do we need one, we also explore the creative process that led us through various iterations until we got it just right. Then it’s time for a big reveal in the starboard hull that has been a longgg time coming! And last but not least we also say goodbye to the one, the only, the truly legendary….Super Ryan. Having him out here helping us with the build was not only a massive boost to our progress, but he also brings alllllll the good vibes everywhere he goes, and we just had so much fun working side by side with him for all this time. We really cannot say it enough how grateful we are to have him as a friend, and we can’t wait to see when our paths cross again!

We’re trying something we’ve never done before in this week’s project! We’re taking you all the way from concept, to design, to execution, to the final product as we engineer a keel cooling system for our Combi electric motors. If you missed the bonus video we posted a few days ago, check that out too it has a lot of background info you might find interesting: https://youtu.be/WO3jDS_pJ5A The keel cooler is the star of the show, but we also have a verrrrry special visitor arrive (who Sierra is especially excited about!) and take a little weekend side quest to explore Moreton Island with some new friends. It was such a fun day and also great to have a little reminder of why we’re working so hard to bring Delos 2.0 to life so we can get out there and explore and enjoy the beautiful world that this lifestyle opens up.

Lately we’ve been finding ourselves using AI more and more for things like simple calculations, gathering research, we even used it to try and design a thumbnail for this episode (which did not turn out well by the way 😂 You can’t win ’em all) But in today’s episode we try and put it to the test with a way more complex problem to solve with a lot of variables to take in to consideration. We’re in the process of designing a keel cooler for our electric motors (if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry all will be revealed in this video!) and then on Friday we’re going to release the full episode where we bring it to life!

This week’s episode is one I’ve been geeking out prettttty hard with, as we kick off the install of our propulsion system! Details matter in every step of the build, but this is one project that we absolutely have to get perfect, and it’s been a super fun challenge! Opening up the box and seeing this perfect shiny propellor felt like being a kid on Christmas morning and had me more than a little giddy 😂 Moments like these allow me to really start picturing and dreaming of Delos 2.0 out there on the water, motoring into a pristine atoll with a perfect sandy beach in front of us with our shiny propellor cutting through the water! But before that can happen, it’s time to get to work on this super exciting project 💪

We’re coming at ya with the exhaust system today! It’s one of those things on the boat that you don’t really think about much when it’s doing it’s job…but if things go wrong, you’ve potentially got.a big problem on your hands. So in this week’s episode we’re taking you step by step through the whole process in quite a lot of detail, and we also give you a pretty thorough breakdown of the different components and how they all work together. There’s always so many projects going on at once in the build, but I have to say that my time spent in the engine room is always one of my favorites. Seeing all the pieces of the puzzle start to come together is just so freaking satisfying!

We are suuuuper excited to share this one with you…it feels like such a big moment as we really start to get into the nitty gritty of the cabin floor plans and construction. We take the port side hull from an aluminum shell, to an ACTUAL ROOM with walls and beds starting to go in….It’s been a bit of a shift in mindset as up until now we’ve been focusing a lot on the systems and how they will work & perform, but now we’re really starting to think about how we want our home to look and feel. There’s a lot to figure out and it’s a type of planning/visualization that feels soooo foreign to us. But luckily Kazza swoops in to the rescue with her modeling skills, and we’re able to start really putting the pieces of the puzzle together, and once we make a few major decisions, progress in the port hull starts roaring along like a freight train!

Building a boat has been full of huge decisions like which engine should we go with, what type of keel, the cockpit layout, etc….but there are also soooo many small decisions that we encounter every single day that really ad up and make a huuuuge impact when it’s all said and done. The day has finally come to start bringing the engine room of my dreams to life! After circumnavigating planet earth over the span of 15 years on the original Delos, apart from the jaw dropping beaches, underwater wonderlands, remote villages, big cities, and random locations around the world we seemed to find ourselves in… there was always one place I could count on that I would spend a loooot of my time….the engine room. Delos was our home and we have a very special bond with her, and the engine room is her heart where the labor of love of maintaining and repairing her takes place. Of course I’ve done my fair share of swearing when I’m twisted into some boat yoga pose in hundred degree heat trying to figure out why the generator keeps shutting off 😂 But nonetheless it’s a special, almost sacred place for me…So that’s why I’m soooo stoked to be able to design the engine rooms on Delos 2.0 exactly how I want, since I know how important this space will be. This is a BIG job and we are only getting started, but we make some major first steps in this weeks episode that I’m super excited to share with you!

Happy Friday everyone! As your work week is winding down, we invite you to join us for what a week in our world looks like. Progress here in the shop isn’t a linear story from one project to the next, but rather more like a zig-zag connect the dots, with the line moving in the general correct direction (most of the time 😂) As usual we’ve got multiple projects on the go at the same time, but our main focus here is back on the bulkheads again. A couple videos ago you saw our first attempt at the port side head bulkheads (here’s the link if you missed that one: https://youtu.be/sKv04oW0xP4 ), but after a bit of brainstorming and head scratching, we came up with a new and improved plan that we wanted to try out. It would involve scrapping what we’d already done up until this point, cutting some holes in the boat to fit it inside, and a bit of unexpected smoke just to keep us on our toes. But I think the result is totally worth it and we are so in love with how it came out!

We’ve got a reeeeal beefy episode ready for ya today! The systems fit out is officially underway, and we’re kicking things off with the grey water system. But more than that, we’re laying the ground work to start transforming the hulls from the ground up. Progress on the boat is like dominos, and once certain tasks are finished everything starts just cascading in place after. We start fitting the floors, the bulkheads, and a few other fun little side quests too, and the boat is just transforming right before our eyes! It’s soooo freaking exciting to see it all come together like this. We’re learning so much as we go, and as I gain confidence in my welding and just getting more familiar with the decision making and problem solving processes that come with building our own boat, it keeps getting more and more fun! We tried a bit of a different style for this episode, a bit longer and slower, and really leaving in all the details of each project, and some of my longer musings and thought processes behind it all. Our engine is heeeeere 🥳 Say hello to our Nanni N.480! Opening up that crate and seeing a brand spanking new, totally clean and shiny bright blue engine is a moment I still grin about when it pops into my mind. Seeing an engine that clean is like the boat equivalent of the new car smell, a special moment in time that you can savor to the fullest knowing it will never look like that again. But the warm and fuzzies would quickly be put on pause as we realize that the hatch where we need to lower the engine down through is going to be one tiiiiiiight squeeze. So we fire up the fork lift, put our noggins together, and get to work!
