On Tuesday, April 20, at 1300 UTC, we dropped anchor in Taaoa Bay on the island of Hiva Oa. Our total time on the boat since we left La Cruz, Mexico, on Saturday, March 27, at 2300 UTC, is…
* 18 days of sailing
* 24 days at sea (including our time anchored off of San Benedicto Island, 400 miles off the coast of Mexico)
On our fastest day of sailing we covered 199.5 nautical miles; on our slowest day we covered just 140 nautical miles.
It’s too late to explore the town, so tonight we’ll visit with our friends on Capaz (who arrived just a few hours before us) and Secret Agent Man (who arrived last week). The entire crew of Delos is excited that tonight, for the first time in a long time, we won’t be hurtling through the water at seven knots, getting pushed around by 10-12 foot swells, and waking up in the middle of the night for watch. And tomorrow we’ll walk on land for the first time in nearly a month! Sweet, sweet land.
Thanks for following our progress across the Pacific Ocean. It was nice to know that so many of you were keeping us company along the way, if from a distance.
